Chainreaction is a person centred service, set up to provide disabled people the opportunity to explore their own personal development.  Participants are encouraged to explore their hopes, fears, experiences and aspirations for the future, increasing confidence and independence.  Chainreaction offers opportunities for learning and training.  Participants are supported to achieve goals and take their life in their chosen direction.

Chainreaction includes:

• working in groups and individually
• exploring aims and ambitions.
• valuing relationships
• valuing individual difference

Our Chainreaction model allows for activities to vary according to individual need, preference and ambition. 

They can include:

• Independent living skills –  travel training, meal planning, money skills and budgeting
• Health and Wellbeing – healthy eating, fitness, relationships, managing health conditions
• Computer, literacy and numeracy skills
• Formal and informal arts and crafts sessions
• Dance and drama
• Cooking and baking
• Gardening and growing vegetables
• Accessing the community –libraries, parks,
• Leisure activities such as cinema, swimming and bowling, restaurants, cafes and pubs
• Group meals and celebrations
• Volunteering at the Kingsley Centre

We operate at the Kingsley Centre five days a week and in Camden (Chainreaction in Town) three days a week.

A user led group created to sustain the lives of disabled adults living in their community with low level support and care needs.   Reducing isolation, providing peer support, giving advice and guidance. 

Chainreaction Above Ground is open one day a week on Wednesdays 10am to 3.30pm at our Chainreaction in Town venue.

We recognise that for some people extra support is required for them to be able to access volunteering opportunities.   We have developed a Supported Volunteering Programme, which acknowledges individual need, whilst at the same time providing a variety of opportunities for personal and skill development.

The programme enables disabled people to participate in a team of volunteers.  Taking part in a variety of tasks and activities such as working in the shop and Post Office, working on reception, administration work, housekeeping, gardening, maintenance and listening and supporting people in our Chainreaction services.  Through our programme we aim to provide a “World of Work” experience.

We believe volunteering is an ideal challenge and that working with support from staff and other volunteers builds self-confidence, skills and experience.

The programme provides training and personal support along with regular mentoring and team meetings.

Offers disabled people with the opportunity to try out living on their own, define their own support needs and discover their own preferences for living.

The project provides:

• A short-term stay in  an accessible two bedroom ground floor flat
• The opportunity to experience the joys and frustrations of independence
• Tenancy support, advice and development of life skills provided by our trained support workers

We also offer a Supported Living service for those living independently within their community. This service is accredited to the Hampshire Supported Living Framework.

Both groups meet regularly at the Kingsley Centre to socialise and have fun.  The groups are completely user led and supported by experienced staff.

The Friends Forever group meets on Tuesday evenings and the Shine group once a month on a Saturday.  The groups choose their programme of activities, which include trips out to the cinema, bowling, theatre and meals, as well as discos and activities based at the Centre.

The inspiration for the Kingsley Centre and its emergence into Kingsley Organisation was a parent carer who wanted more for her disabled daughter and who did not recognise the meaning of 'impossible'.   

We have always acknowledged the role of parent carer and how they can benefit from the opportunity for information and support. 

The group meets at the Kingsley Centre every 6 weeks.  It is an opportunity to meet other parent carers, share experiences and learn from each other. 

The group is open to any parent carer who feels they would benefit from meeting others in a similar situation and who are looking for support and information.
